2-1-1 Volusia Flagler/First Call For Help: United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties’ Information and Referral Service was created to give people in need of community services direction, support and a place to call when they don’t know where to turn. The service is free, and confidential. Certified Information & Referral Specialists are available by telephone 24/7, 365 days a year, locally from 8am to 5pm Monday thru Friday, with afterhours coverage by 2-1-1 Brevard.

Information and Referral (I&R) is a service that helps people in need find the resources and services that can best meet or eliminate that need by:

  • Creating and maintaining a community service database.
  • Assessing and prioritizing the callers’ needs and eligibility
  • Providing information about available, appropriate human services, screening to ensure they are affordable, accessible, and meet the assessed needs of the consumer.
  • Providing problem-solving assistance, and advocacy as necessary to support consumers in their efforts to receive the services and/or assistance they need.
  • Providing data to community planners and funding sources detailing the local inventory of services, requests for those services and gaps in service.
  • Participating in community education activities regarding available services, providing organization and the service delivery system.

Like 9-1-1, it creates a simple and easy number to remember that is also a recognizable service delivery concept. 2-1-1 does not create services, but catalogues services and creates public access to that catalogue through the telephone based service (2-1-1) or (386-253-0564) and internet (www.211live.org)

Professional Association and Credentialing:

The Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) is the professional association for over 1,200 community Information and Referral (I&R) providers and Information and Referral/Assistance (I&R/A) providers, primarily in the United States and Canada - helping to bring people and services together for over 35 years. Services include educational conferences, online training through Essential Learning portal and credentialing of organizations and practitioners.
