Included are museums that focus on the history of a particular sport such as surfing or thoroughbred racing, institutions such as baseball and football halls of fame that chronicle the achievements of exemplary sports figures elected to membership, museums dedicated to the history of specific athletic contests such as the Olympics or the Kentucky Derby, and museums that focus on a the sports traditions of a particular community or region.
