A hereditary condition that is characterized by the inability of the body to produce lysosomal acid ceramidase which causes painful and progressive articular deformities. Symptoms include swollen joints, sensitive skin and the growth of nodules in the vital organs including the heart, kidneys and liver. Intelligence may be affected.
