One of a group of inherited diseases wherein metabolism which involves mucopolysaccharides (the thick, gelatinous material which glues cells together, lubricates joints and is found in blood group substances) is defective and these substances accumulate in the tissues. Clinically, there are severe skeletal deformities and usually intellectual disabilities.
