Programs that provide assistance to individuals who need to change their name on a passport, driver license, state ID card, court order, immigration papers, tribal ID card, or other documents. Legal name changes are typically processed according to the rules of the applicant's local state court system; applicants whose request is approved will receive a court order document that can be used to request the change of name with other government agencies. A formal state court name change petition is generally not required after marriage.
