The boxes are attached to the front door or mounted near the front entryway of an individual's residence or business, and can be opened by a master key maintained by the local fire department. Key lock box systems provide nondestructive rapid access to residential or commercial property for lifesaving or firefighting purposes when the home or business owner is unavailable or unable to answer the door.
